The Cartier Tank Française W51008Q3 is the small steel-quartz variant of a line that debuted in Geneva in 1995 — and went on to be produced for 27 years without a major revision. The fully integrated metal bracelet was the defining feature of the Française at its 1996 launch: pointed case lugs, links that flow seamlessly into the case. The steel models followed a year later, and since then the W51008Q3 has carried caliber 057, one of the slimmest quartz movements to come out of Cartier's own manufacture.
## How 2023 reshaped the market for the outgoing reference
With its discontinuation in 2023 and the arrival of successor WSTA0129, the W51008Q3 became a closed reference. The new model measures 25.7 × 21.2 × 6.8 mm — the W51008Q3 came in at 25 × 20 × 6.15 mm, sitting just under a millimeter slimmer. Cartier swapped the dial's grained finish for a sunray finish, replaced the octagonal push/pull crown with a flat integrated crown, and exchanged printed numerals for applied ones.
