At Watches & Wonders 2021, the WSTA0054 arrived with an unambiguous statement — a monochromatic claret lacquered dial that immerses the entire watch in a single color: hands, dial, and overall presence in deep bordeaux red. Cartier launched three colorways simultaneously (Claret, Blue, Green), but the WSTA0054 is the only one to have generated waitlists ever since. Power comes from calibre 157 in its 2018-revised form — quartz, precise, and low on maintenance. The case is stainless steel, not the gilded silver used on the Must de Cartier from 1977 to 2004, and the crystal is sapphire rather than the plexiglass of the vintage line.
## Why Production Quietly Ended in 2022
Cartier never issued an official discontinuation press release. From 2022 onward, the WSTA0054 was simply no longer orderable through boutiques — a single production run, with no follow-up. The market priced that in swiftly. Examples in good condition regularly trade above the original boutique price. In collector parlance, the watch goes by Tank Must Rouge, Must Rouge, or Burgundy Must, depending on the community and the continent.
## What Sets the Claret Variant Apart from the Other Two
Blue and Green from the same series remain in circulation; the claret dial does not. That is the decisive difference in resale behavior. Anyone who bought in 2021 holds a reference with a natural supply ceiling: no restocking, no second batch, no regular retail access.
