The real story wasn't the design — it was the movement. For the first time, Panerai fitted an entry-level model not with a bought-in Unitas or ETA caliber, but with its own in-house P.6000, hand-wound with a 72-hour power reserve. The launch price sat around $5,000. For the brand, it was a statement: Panerai wanted independence from outside suppliers even at the lower end of its lineup.
