Serial numbers
- ? – ? (2020–?) — Rolex has used randomized serial numbers since approx. 2010, with no direct inference of production year. No reliable public serial number ranges documented for the 126000.
In 2020, Rolex retired the outgoing reference 116000 and swapped out the entire movement architecture for the 126000. The newly developed caliber 3230 replaces the old 3130, and Rolex added the Easylink comfort extension and Chromalight luminescent material. The case itself changes little — the 36mm Oyster with its smooth, domed steel bezel remains the foundation. What sets the 126000 apart since then is one of the widest dial palettes in the entire Oyster Perpetual lineup, spanning everything from Candy Pink to Tiffany Blue.
## 2023: The First Break from the Pure Lacquer Dial
Three years later, Rolex moves beyond the pure lacquer dial. With the Celebration Dial and Puzzle Dial, patterned dials enter the OP36 line for the first time in 2023, with the turquoise Celebration version offered at regular price and with no production cap. For collectors, this marks a real shift: motif dials had previously been reserved for special editions, but now they're part of the standard catalog.
## 2025: The Big Matte Overhaul at Watches & Wonders
At Watches & Wonders 2025, Rolex does some serious housecleaning. Five new matte shades, Pistachio, Lavender, Beige, Matte Blue, and Matte Black, replace Bright Black and Bright Blue, while Yellow, Coral Red, Celebration Dial, and Puzzle Dial drop out of the lineup. Important for the resale market: Matte Black is a standalone dial, not a reissue of the Bright Black version, despite what the name might suggest.
## 2026: Ten Colors, One Dial, No Premium
At Watches & Wonders 2026, the 126000 gets its most elaborate dial yet with the Jubilee Motif Multicolour Dial: a ten-color printed pattern inspired by the historic Datejust Jubilee dial. Technically, nothing changes, caliber 3230 and the Easylink clasp remain identical. The price sits at 6,500 euros, with no premium over any other 126000 variant — unusual for a dial with this level of craftsmanship.
Brand profile: Rolex
Rolex is the most counterfeited watch brand in the world. Super-clones (VSF, ARF, Clean — the latter inactive since the 07/2025 raid, with only old stock still circulating) reach 95%+ similarity. Authenticity can almost always only be identified through micro-details and caliber behavior.
- Case back: ALWAYS solid and closed — any display window means it's definitely fake (exception: vintage Ref. 6085 only)
- Minute hand length: genuine Rolex minute hands end EXACTLY at the minute chapter ring. 1 mm too long = fake. The strongest VSF tell.
- Seconds hand: smooth sweep without any hesitation — the slightest tick-tock motion means it's fake
- Cyclops lens (on Date models): must magnify exactly 2.5×, with the date filling almost the entire window
Serial number format: Since 2010, a random alphanumeric combination (e.g. 'G3M9K721'). 2000-2010: a letter plus 6-7 digits. Serial number engraved on the rehaut at 6 o'clock (from ~2005). Older models: between the lug shoulders at 6 o'clock on the case.
