The Rolex 69174 is the classic Lady-Datejust in 26 mm — stainless steel case, fluted bezel in 18-karat white gold, Jubilee or Oyster bracelet at the buyer's choice. That precise combination is what Rolex calls "White Rolesor," and the market has maintained its own price premium for it ever since. Caliber 2135 powered the watch from its introduction through the transition to ref. 179174 around 1999/2000 — just under 13 years of production, during which Rolex made only minor revisions to the reference.
## Reading the Serial Number: What R, S, T Tell You
From around 1987 onward, Rolex moved from purely numeric serial numbers (in the 7- to 9-million range) to letter prefixes. A 69174 with an "R" prefix dates to approximately 1987/88 — the same production year in which Rolex introduced the Crownclasp on the Jubilee bracelet. Earlier examples with a 7xxx serial number still carry the 7836 folding clasp. For buyers, it's not a dealbreaker, but it does move the needle on price: original Crownclasp examples are noticeably more sought after in the market.
