## A New Layout, 80 Years Later: the AB0145371L1A1
In 2023, Breitling reworked the subdial layout on the Premier B01 Chronograph 42. The AB0145371L1A1, with its green dial, is one of six models that arrived that year and effectively replaced the outgoing AB0118 — without ever officially discontinuing it. The trigger was the brand's 80th anniversary, and Breitling looked back to the Ref. 777 from 1943 for inspiration. Instead of a tri-compax layout with a 12-hour counter, the watch now runs bi-compax: a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and running seconds at 9 o'clock. The Cal. B01 inside also picked up a more compact rotor in the process.
## Five Dials, One Family
The switch also brought new colors. Green, copper and salmon joined the existing lineup, with the AB0145371L1A1 representing the green option. In total, the reference now spans five dial codes: blue (171C1), black (221B1), silver (211G1), copper (331K1 — sometimes referred to in the trade as the "Copper Dial Premier") and, of course, green (371L1). The rectangular pushers carried over from the previous generation, and the case wears the same 121 bezel throughout — smooth and fixed, in steel.
## What This Means for Buyers
Anyone shopping for an AB0145 should pay close attention to the production year. Models from before 2023 carrying the AB0118 reference have a different dial layout and belong to the earlier series. For the green version, there's no established collector nickname — unlike the copper variant — which actually makes identification by reference number more straightforward. When it comes to valuing these on the market, condition of the Cal. B01 matters just as much as dial color, since Breitling equipped this generation with a revised caliber featuring its own distinct rotor design.
Brand profile: Breitling
Breitling is known for aviation and dive watches. Chronographs (Navitimer, Chronomat) are the most frequently counterfeited. Pay close attention to slide rule details and COSC certification.
Key authenticity features
- Wing logo: a genuine Breitling logo shows the anchor and wing tips that NEVER touch — precise negative space between them — fakes let the tips meet or overlap
- 3D 'B' crown: the 'B' on the crown must appear three-dimensional with a light reflection on the curve — a flat 'B' = fake
- Bezel scale vs. dial: the outer white bezel scale must align precisely with the inner black dial indices — fakes show misalignment
- Date disc depth: a genuine Navitimer date disc sits flush with the dial plane — fakes show the date window as a 'crater' (noticeably sunken or raised)
Serial number format: Breitling serial numbers: alphanumeric, located between the lugs at 6 o'clock. Format: one letter + 8 digits (e.g. 'AB012012'). Older models: digits only.
