- ? – ? (2023–2026) — Per 2010, Rolex uses randomized serial numbers (5-8 digits). Exact serial ranges for 336238 not publicly disclosed. Serial engraved on rehaut (inner bezel ring) on modern watches. Dating by serial alone impossible; reference model number + dial variant + bracelet type used for authentication.
The Ref. 336238 launched in 2023, taking over from the 326238 line that had run since 2012. What's new is the caliber — 9002 instead of the old 9001 — meaning Rolex swapped out the entire Sky-Dweller generation rather than just tweaking the dial. Collectors have long since settled on the shorthand "Gen 2" for it, with the 326238 becoming the first generation in hindsight. The 42-millimeter case carries over, but the movement inside is now twelve years newer than its predecessor's.
## Oysterflex Replaces the Classic Bracelets
Where the 326238 came on Oyster or President bracelets, the 336238 ships standard on Oysterflex — a rubber strap with a metal core that Rolex otherwise reserves mostly for its sports models. For the Sky-Dweller family, that's a first. Four dial variants are available: Champagne, Bright Black, White, and, since 2024, Bright Green as well — the 336238-0004. The green joined the lineup later, while the other three colors ran in parallel from the start.
## The Fluted Ring Command Bezel Remains the Signature Feature
The fluted Ring Command bezel in 18-karat yellow gold has been the Sky-Dweller line's visual signature since the first generation, and all four dial variants of the 336238 carry it on unchanged. When authenticating a piece, look closely at the fluting count and the depth of the engraving — on fakes, the fluting often runs too coarse or too uniform. Paired with the Cal. 9002, a 336238 can be told apart from its predecessor fairly cleanly: a look at the movement confirms the generation, a look at the dial confirms the variant.
Brand profile: Rolex
Rolex is the most counterfeited watch brand in the world. Super-clones (VSF, ARF, Clean — the latter inactive since the 07/2025 raid, with only old stock still circulating) reach 95%+ similarity. Authenticity can almost always only be identified through micro-details and caliber behavior.
- Case back: ALWAYS solid and closed — any display window means it's definitely fake (exception: vintage Ref. 6085 only)
- Minute hand length: genuine Rolex minute hands end EXACTLY at the minute chapter ring. 1 mm too long = fake. The strongest VSF tell.
- Seconds hand: smooth sweep without any hesitation — the slightest tick-tock motion means it's fake
- Cyclops lens (on Date models): must magnify exactly 2.5×, with the date filling almost the entire window
Serial number format: Since 2010, a random alphanumeric combination (e.g. 'G3M9K721'). 2000-2010: a letter plus 6-7 digits. Serial number engraved on the rehaut at 6 o'clock (from ~2005). Older models: between the lug shoulders at 6 o'clock on the case.

What drives the price here
At $49,514 the watch sells well if the condition is right. A market rule of thumb: a complete set with box, papers and warranty card brings 10 to 15 percent more than the bare watch. Buying without papers can pay off, but you take the same discount again later when you resell.
Watch out for swings: This reference has an above-average volatility of 40.5 percent. In concrete terms: the price can move by several hundred euros within a few weeks. Check the current value before buying or selling — old listings or auction results from two months ago are of little help.
