- N-serial – Z-serial (1998–2006) — Serial number engraved between the lugs at 6 o'clock. N≈1998, A≈1999–2000, P≈2000–2001, K≈2001–2002, Y≈2002–2003, F≈2003–2004, V≈2004–2005, Z≈2005–2006. Letter prefix is a production year indicator (±1–2 years), not a sales year.
The Rolex Lady-Datejust 79174 goes by three collector names, and all three land: Rolesor Blanc, Steel/White Gold 26mm, White Rolesor. What separates it from the 69174 is the fluted bezel in solid 18k white gold. The 26mm Oyster steel case paired with white gold sounds like a compromise on paper — on the wrist it reads as one material. Caliber 2235 is inside, self-winding, and in this size class it remains unmatched to this day.
## 2003 is the dividing line — and the market knows it
From 2003 onward, Rolex switched from Tritium to SuperLuminova. The transition was gradual: mixed examples carrying V- and F-serial numbers exist, and the dial signature shifts from "T SWISS MADE T" to "SWISS MADE." Anyone chasing a Tritium example with an intact dial is paying a 10–15% premium over comparable SuperLuminova pieces today. Nine documented dial variants are in play — from Silver Index to White MOP Diamond to Salmon Roman — which splits the pre-owned market into at least three distinct price tiers.
## The 179174 replaced it in 2006 — the 79174 is the more interesting watch now
The six-digit Ref. 179174 arrived in 2006, bringing rehaut engraving and a modernized bracelet without lug holes, and from 2010 onward, random serial numbers. The older 79174 lost its place in the lineup but gained a character of its own. Examples with untouched black or Champagne dials from the transitional window of 2003–2006 are thinner on the ground than you'd expect — three to four surface monthly on European platforms, rarely with original box.
Brand profile: Rolex
Rolex is the most counterfeited watch brand in the world. Super-clones (VSF, ARF, Clean — the latter inactive since the 07/2025 raid, with only old stock still circulating) reach 95%+ similarity. Authenticity can almost always only be identified through micro-details and caliber behavior.

- Seconds hand: smooth sweep without any hesitation — the slightest tick-tock motion means it's fake
- Cyclops lens (on Date models): must magnify exactly 2.5×, with the date filling almost the entire window
Serial number format: Since 2010, a random alphanumeric combination (e.g. 'G3M9K721'). 2000-2010: a letter plus 6-7 digits. Serial number engraved on the rehaut at 6 o'clock (from ~2005). Older models: between the lug shoulders at 6 o'clock on the case.
